Nigerian singer, Burna Boy loses his first Grammy nomination and his fans have been very positive about his winning the award but unfortunately, he lost to Angelique Kidjo.
This is such heartbreaking news for the fans of the singer. Burna who was nominated in the world’s best album category for the Grammy Awards 2020 lost with the other nominees to Angelique Kidjo.
The Best World Music Album category recognizes performers outside the United States who showcase non-European, indigenous influences in their body of work. The award was first handed out in 1992 to Mickey Hart.
Other artists who did not make it in the category at the ceremony at Staples Centre in Los Angeles are Gece — Altin Gün, What Heat — Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley
and Fanm D’ayiti — Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet.
Angelique Kidjo came out to get her award and dedicated the award to Burna Boy. She said:
“This is for Boy. Burna Boy is amongst those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our continent is perceived …”
